Philadelphia, PA, London, UK, Oct 12, 2011 - (ACN Newswire) - Thomson Reuters, the world's leading provider of information for businesses and professionals, today announced a three-year national agreement with the Republic of Kazakhstan's National Center for Scientific and Technical Information, that will bring Thomson Reuters Web of Knowledge(TM) to 322 academic, research and government institutions across the country.
The National Center for Scientific and Technical Information of the Republic of Kazakhstan is one of the largest information centers among the post-Soviet Union countries and the initiator of a set of breakthrough projects in Kazakhstan science.
The agreement is the largest for Thomson Reuters Web of Knowledge platform in Central Asia, and is the third agreement the company has signed with a national government during the past twelve months. The national agreements for Thomson Reuters Web of Knowledge ensure access to the most comprehensive source of citation information for multiple institutions within a country, and represent a key step towards enhancing the national research environment for the governments involved.
Under the agreement, researchers throughout Kazakhstan will gain access to the world's leading citation databases, enabling them to quickly search and discover the most high impact literature in the sciences, social sciences and the arts and humanities. In addition, the powerful analysis tools within the platform will enable institutions across the country to evaluate and benchmark their own research with that of the peers around the world, and to identify possible opportunities for future collaboration.
The agreement was jointly approved by the Minister of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Professor Bakytzhan Turssynovich Zhumagulov, and Dr. Yerbol Zinaddinovich Suleimenov, president of the National Center for Scientific and Technical Information of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
Commenting on the announcement, Dr. Yerbol Zinaddinovich Suleimenov, president of the National Center for Scientific and Technical Information of the Republic of Kazakhstan, said: "Working with a global leader like Thomson Reuters, is undoubtedly a significant step to the development not only for the National Center for Scientific and Technical Information, but also to Kazakhstan science as a whole. Such cooperation ensures closer integration into the international research system."
Keith MacGregor, executive vice-president, Thomson Reuters commented: "I would like to thank the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the National Center for Scientific and Technical Information, for choosing Thomson Reuters as their partner. The national agreement ensures continuity for the next three years and enables Kazakhstan to focus on the important goal of promoting Kazakhstani research around the world."
