FTTH specialist appointed to influential board of directors |
Oakland, CA, June 12, 2012 - (ACN Newswire) - Zhone Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: ZHNE), a global leader in FTTx network access solutions, today announced Alfie Martin, independent FTTH market expert, has been chosen for the FTTH Council Africa board of directors. As a specialist in the design of integrated GPON-based triple-play networks and a consultant on the complete feasibility, design, product selection and implementation of FTTP deployments, Martin's knowledge and expertise will be a great asset to the board and also benefit the company in a rapidly growing market.
"The continued growth of the FTTH industry and the consistent growth of the FTTH Council Africa have resulted in us reviewing how we, as an industry organization, can best support the interests of our members," enthused Richard Came, president of FTTH Council Africa. "With that in mind, we embarked on the search to expand our existing board of directors. Our vision remains the same, and we value the efforts of every member that not only believes in the FTTH Council Africa, but also promote its interests on a daily basis. It is clear to us that Martin is just such an advocate, and we are delighted to welcome him to the board."
The board of directors will actively promote the fiber industry and will dedicate some of their time to engage on behalf of industry at all levels of public and private sector. The FTTH Council Africa believes that the development and deployment of fiber based broadband access networks will enhance the quality of life for South African citizens and Africa as a whole, and provide African countries with an infrastructure that will allow its companies to increase their effectiveness and competitiveness within the global marketplace. The council's charter is to educate Africa governments, policy makers and political leaders on why and how high speed fiber connectivity can be delivered to citizens within the next years.
"This appointment of Martin to the FTTH Council Africa is a symbol of our investment in all fiber markets," said Brian Caskey, chief marketing officer of Zhone. "Martin is considered to be one of the pioneers of FTTH networks in South Africa and was responsible for the design and implementation of the country's first pre-standards triple-play PON (Passive Optical Network) system in 2005. We are delighted he agreed to represent Zhone on this board as a voice for us and our customers in the FTTH market of Africa."
